Chattanooga's EPB Seeks to Diversify Suppliers and Contractors

While "Rosie the Riveter" popularized the role of women in welding during World War II, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that fewer than one of every 16 welders today is a female and about 10% of all welders are Black.

Chandra Chambers wants to change those statistics and with the help of her husband, Brent, an experienced welder, the couple has built Chambers Welding and Fabrication Corp. over the past nine years to include 26 employees offering both professional and recreational training opportunities in welding. Since moving to Chattanooga in 2013, Chandra Chambers has served on the board of Green Spaces and the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, where she said she has networked with other businesses and worked to help the community to grow.
